New Year 2023: Rewind, Reflect And Move Forward

Are you tired of making those boring New Year Resolutions? Let’s rewind & move forward instead. Read along to know more.

How time flies? It was just two months ago that we celebrated the New Year. That got me thinking… how many New Year's resolutions have I fulfilled so far? Is there any meaning in this year-end ritual when we have no intention in keeping it? I had the day to myself, so I decided to set aside some time to rewind, reflect and plan ahead.

Self Evaluate: My Most Trying Ordeal

Working as an events manager in a reputed firm, last year was not all sunshine and roses for me. You feel the strain of having to oversee an event from the ground up. One small mistake or a delay in getting things done on time will put you in a real fix. I encountered such a mess that an event almost came to an abrupt halt. There was a glitch from the catering service team and the food didn’t arrive on time. All the tension and responsibility fell on my head. It was obvious, I panicked to my wit’s end. Felt like the world was crashing down.

My profession doesn’t permit me to show my fears. A volcano was erupting inside as I was being fired at from both ends – my boss on one hand, and my client on the other. I had to be at my patient best and control the situation at hand. I realised that distraction was the solution. So I rescheduled the programs, to distract the guests to focus more on entertainment than food. Luckily, everything worked out okay – guests were occupied till the food arrived.

Self Appreciate: Forgive & Forget

Last year was also the time when I had broken ties with a close friend of mine after a bitter fight. We were not on speaking terms for about a month. I had mentally decided this hate was going to last forever. Right after a month, I learned through a common friend that she had met with an accident. Without any thought of our past differences, I rushed to meet her. She was out of danger, but seeing her unconscious in the hospital, I couldn’t help but break into tears. Felt a surge of guilt, even though I knew her accident was no fault of mine.

The Lessons Learnt

In the first incident, I learnt how much strength I had on the day when I handled the situation as an events manager. I also understood that I had the potential to tackle the most trying situations in my life. It made me more confident to do more and grow more in my profession till now.

In relation to the second… the moment my friend became conscious, the first thing I did was give her a tight hug. That was more than enough. Everything was back to normal. That’s when I understood how short life is to stay angry with the ones you love. Also that we should never take anything or anyone for granted.

The Future Ahead

These were the main highlights of my life in 2022. I have pushed away the empty New Year resolutions I had made and I have decided to focus on the future in a more sensible way. Just going to go with one motto in life this year: To be happy and surround myself with things and people that make me feel happy.

That’s why I have decided to book one of the New Year’s Eve cruises to end the year on a good note. I guessed it would be the best way to make up with my close friend, who is now in good health. The fireworks display, the beautiful iconic attractions and the mesmerising waterfront dining experience is sure to be the ideal way to give this year a happy ending.

Can’t wait to hop aboard the New Year’s Eve cruise on Sydney Harbour this year. I hope my blog has created a positive impact on you. If it has inspired you in any way please do comment below.
